Packing up

It is amazing to see your whole life in a shipping container. We waved off our container expertly packed by Grace Removals. We had used cheaper options in the past but knowing we were moving interstate and that it may be in storage for a couple of weeks we decided to go with Grace. We are so glad we did. These guys were great - from turning up on time, to keeping us informed through to checking with us about how we wanted things done and how they would do them.

Watching these guys was like watching Tetris masters at work. Every space was utilised. The container was actually packed to within an inch of the doors.

T
he truck was to leave us on the Monday afternoon, be at the train terminal by Tuesday and be on the Sunshine Coast Depp by Thursday. Grace were happy to leave the shipping container at the Grace Sunshine Coast yard for two to three weeks prior to charging storage. As it turned out we found a rental within 10 days and a phone call later we had a delivery date for the end of the week.

Tricks for young players. It is great to pack stuff yourselves but can I recommend that you use all the same boxes or at least boxes all from the same company. We had boxes from everywhere and it just made it very difficult to stack them in the spare room and for the guys to pack the container on the day.

We also took a photo of the container serial number. This is painted on the outside and just gave us peace of mind in tracking the container if anything did go wrong.

The big TV boxes an excellent for packing all your outside stuff that is hard to pack otherwise - brooms, rakes, shovels etc. just remember to label it "heavy" for the guys at the other end.

The guys who unpacked us at the other end were just as professional. We had three guys who turned up at about 8 am and they were done by 10.30am. All the right boxes in the right rooms and the beds put back together and furniture reassembled.

This was the least stressful move we have ever made.
